On these pages are natural cures for diseases and conditions that we have used ourselves or have verified with health books. These alternative cures may use herbs, pure essential oils, vitamins, and/or food. They are more than home remedies, folk medicine, or old wives' tales!
Talk to your doctor before making any major change. Starting a natural remedy may require your doctor to change the dose of your prescription medicines. You can read more about this in our articles.
Do not use a nasal spray that contains zinc, including Zincum Gluconicum or Zinc Gluconate.
Although zinc is helpful when taken orally, taking it nasally has given some people a terrible side effect. Thousands, at least, have lost their sense of smell entirely, and you cannot taste without a sense of smell. This side effect appears to be permanent.
Known culprits are Cold-Eeze, Zicam Cold Remedy, and NatraBio Cold & Sinus Nasal Spray, but any nasal spray that contains zinc in any form should not be used. Cold-Eeze no longer offers their product in nasal form, but Zicam still does, and NatraBio's nasal products no longer contain zinc.
Zinc deficiency can cause impaired sense of taste, and taking zinc can fix this problem. It is often the case that too much of a vitamin or mineral will cause the same symptoms as a deficiency. The problem here is taking zinc through the nose, which may absorb zinc too easily or may hold onto it. Taking zinc orally now might possibly help those who lost their sense of taste and smell because of a nasal product.
FOR VEGETABLE HATERS: You can discreetly add some to almost everything you cook. Chopped finely enough, vegetables can be added to mashed potatoes, breads, sauces, juices, smoothies, brownies, scrambled eggs, garlic bread, etc., without affecting the taste but adding color and nutrition. You can even "fool" yourself.
