Gout occurs when there is too much uric acid in the blood. The body can either make too much uric acid, or the body has trouble eliminating the uric acid that is present. The excess uric acid turns into crystals which collect in the joints and cause inflammation and great pain.
Natural apple cider vinegar will dissolve these calcium deposits. In addition to ingesting vinegar in liquid or pill form, you can soak the painful joints in a mixture of 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar and 3 cups of hot water.
Aspirin will help with inflammation and pain, but it also stops the body from getting rid of uric acid. Ibuprofen does not cause this problem, and it will help with inflammation and pain.
Regular doses of aspirin (two 325 mg tablets every four hours) can elevate the uric acid level. This occurs because aspirin at this level can impair the excretion of uric acid from the kidneys. In very high doses, aspirin actually blocks reabsorption of uric acid by the kidneys, causing uric acid to be dumped out of the body in the urine and lowering the blood level of uric acid. An acute attack of gout can be brought on by a rapid change of uric acid in either direction.
The extremely low dose aspirin 75-81 mg per day, given for heart attack or stroke prevention, should not significantly alter the uric acid level.
Drink lots of water and herbal teas to help flush out the system.
Some foods add uric acid to your system and should be avoided. These would include: animal organs (heart, liver, kidney, brains), gravy made with animal organs, turkey, bacon, ice cream, mussels, otameal, sardines, anchovies, asparagus, legumes, mushrooms, and shell fish. Alchohol can also increase the amount of uric acid in your system. Cut out coffee and soft drinks also.
Foods that should be added to the diet include: baked potatoes with the skin on, canteloupe, dried peaches, cooked spinach, avocadoes, bananas, orange juice, oranges, carrots, yogurt (non-fat), yams, prunes, tomatoes, garlic, cherries, grapes, and parsley.
Fasting or unsafe dieting can also increase the uric acid in your system. Unsafe dieting is losing more than 2 pounds per week. Taking diuretics to speed weight loss could also prevent the system from eliminating uric acid in the system.
Take a good multivitamin which includes Vitamin B-5, Vitamin A, and Vtamin E.
